Species determination
Through a species determination test, ideally using feathers, it is possible to identify the species of a bird.
When is species determination in birds useful?
- In activities such as population monitoring and the import and export of birds, feathers of unknown origin are regularly found. Our advanced avian species determination can bring clarity to further investigation.
- Curiosity about a feather you have found
- Uncertainty about the species, for example when buying a new bird
Important: our techniques cannot be applied to the feathers of hybrid birds. The test relies on DNA inherited from the mother, which makes exact species determination difficult in hybrid cases.
Turnaround times
- If you send the sample by mail, we will confirm receipt via email.
- Processing time: 10-14 business days from receipt of your sample.
- You will receive an email when your results and certificate are available on your personal portal.

STEP 3: Payment & results
You will receive your invoice as soon as we have received your complete request.
Payment can be made on site*, by bank transfer or through your vet. Once payment is received, we begin the analysis.
You will receive your certified results by email, within the agreed turnaround time, unless stated otherwise.
